Job Description Position Overview: This position is responsible for oversight/management of research and development activities specifically relating to materials science, development/implementation of new resins, and increasing usage of Post Consumer Recycled resins. This person will work extensively with both internal & external partners to lead development of next generation materials science solutions that enable more sustainable products in the market place.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties: - Responsible for leading sustainable materials innovation pipeline & related programs.
- Drives ongoing innovation and technology scouting activities in sustainability, particularly materials arena.
- Internal expert regarding PCR usage and approaches/methods for increasing amount of PCR in ARP products.
- Leads research & decision making relative to new resin solutions and alternatives.
- Maintain timelines as relates to material development programs aligned with overall business objectives.
- Works in partnership with NPD teams and BU's to address challenges/opportunities in sustainable materials and increasing PCR.
- Manages multi-dimensional material development programs including alignment of internal stakeholders and indirect leadership of cross-functional project teams.
- Specifies & approves lab work requests including sign-off on resin/process configurations and oversight of the qualification of new resins/materials where applicable.
- Establish inspection protocol and validate new product & materials specifications.
- Supports BU's to create business case for resin/barrier solutions including targeted performance specifications, costing, & overall value proposition.
- Prescribe the use of appropriate project management & engineering tools for development & implementation of resin/barrier solutions.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering, manufacturing and other internal/external customers as required.
- Combines lateral/creative thinking with scientific knowledge.
- Knows the business well enough to understand overall market needs and to predict future needs.
- Applies professional and engineering/design principles to develop an understanding of multi-dimensional, variable situations that will guide thinking about ways to address challenges and decipher relevant solutions.
- Strong program management skills and experience with ability to lead high priority, cross-functional development programs.
- Ability to work autonomously and adds value in all phases of a project and applies analytical skills.
- Oversees resin trials and/or participate in material selection activities.
- Requires tact and effectiveness in dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders in everyday working relationships & executive reporting/communication.
- Ability to provide general direction to others, work in progress is reviewed routinely.
- Selects appropriate work procedures or approaches to address technical challenges.
- Makes own decisions regarding how to approach specific work assignments.
- Responsible for completion of work within budget for area of responsibility.
- Holds self and others to appropriate policies and procedures.
- Must have safety awareness, dependability, clear written and oral communication.

Qualifications: - Education: Master's Degree or PhD in materials related discipline
- 4-7 years of relevant experience plus a degree in material science, engineering, or equivalent
- Experienced program leader relative to material science in a corporate setting able to define, implement, & maintain effective program management practices
- Proficient in material science and relevant impact on injection and blow molding processes.
- Proficient knowledge of PET, PP, HDPE and basic knowledge of alternative materials.
- Ability to work in complex research & development environment.
- Establish and direct appropriate work standards.
- Proficient at establishing & maintaining relationships with vendors & other external partners.
- Valid drivers license
- Travel 10%
