Description Claflin University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Humanities. This is a three-year, full-time position designed to provide a talented and motivated scholar with the opportunity to pursue advanced research in their chosen field within the humanities. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, contribute to ongoing research projects, and engage in scholarly activities that enrich the academic community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research: Conduct independent and collaborative research within the humanities field. This includes developing and executing research plans, collecting and analyzing data, and producing high-quality research outputs such as articles, book chapters, and conference presentations.
- Contribution to Ongoing Projects: Collaborate with faculty members, researchers, and other postdocs on existing research initiatives. Contribute your expertise to ongoing projects, offer innovative ideas, and help advance the intellectual goals of the department.
- Professional Development: Stay abreast of current developments and trends in your field. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to expand your knowledge, share your work, and build a professional network.
- Teaching and Mentoring: Depending on the institution's requirements, you might be involved in teaching undergraduate or graduate courses related to your expertise. Additionally, you could mentor students, supervise research projects, and provide guidance to junior researchers.
- Publication: Prepare and submit research findings to peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly outlets. Disseminate your work to contribute to the broader academic discourse within the humanities.
- Community Engagement: Engage with the academic community through participation in departmental meetings, seminars, and public lectures. Contribute to a vibrant intellectual environment by sharing your insights and perspectives.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with researchers from diverse disciplines to explore interdisciplinary connections and contribute to cross-disciplinary projects. Perform any other duties within the scope of this position.
Qualifications - A completed Ph.D. in a humanities field (e.g., Literature, History, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, etc.) at the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated expertise in a specific area within the humanities, as evidenced by research accomplishments, publications, and presentations.
- Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research-oriented environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Teaching experience (preferred, if teaching responsibilities are included in the role).
