Job Description Coffman Engineers is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer with five or more years of working experience, who wants to be a part of our office growth and culture. The successful candidate will have a desire to work, grow, and have fun with a multi-discipline engineering team. The successful individual will have a passion for protecting lives from fire risks in the built environment. The ideal candidate will have a fire protection engineering degree, however, an engineering degree in other fields (mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) with working experience in fire protection or a desire/willingness to learn will also be considered. This position will support the team in providing our clients with fire and life safety code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant rated construction analysis; automatic suppression system design and analysis; fire detection, alarm and communication system design and analysis; smoke control system design; site inspections and witness of life safety system testing; fire hazard analysis; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts. The Anchorage Fire Protection Engineering department collectively has 60+ years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering across our department of four, all of whom will provide you with training, mentorship, and support to help you grow your career. We enjoy working together collaboratively in the office and supporting each other to deliver good engineering work that makes the world a safer place. Qualifications Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Sciences. Degree in other engineering field with fire protection experience or desire/willingness to learn also considered. From five (5) or more years of experience in the fire protection engineering/consulting profession. PE or ability to obtain PE within 2 years. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including oral presentation skills. Ability to work on a highly-motivated team, think outside the box, and be proud of the work you do while having a passion for expanding your knowledge and skills. Desired Skills and Abilities: Possess intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and simple graphics Possess technical writing skills. Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations. Possess project management skills for managing internal projects as well as external client needs. Provide peer reviews of colleagues' work product. Perform building and fire code analysis and code interpretations. Prepare life safety plans. Perform analysis of existing fire protection systems, as well as designing new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, alarm and mass notification systems Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution. Utilization of AutoCAD, Revit to prepare fire protection system designs. This position is not eligible for sponsorship. This position is not remote.
